What is a a blocked account?

A blocked account (Sperrkonto) is a special bank account required for international students applying for a student visa to Germany. It ensures that you have sufficient funds to cover living expenses while studying in Germany.

The account is “blocked” because the funds cannot be fully accessed at once. You can withdraw a fixed monthly amount, as specified by German authorities (currently around €992 per month in 2025) to cover your living costs. The remaining balance stays secured in the account until it is needed or until the end of your studies.

This account is mandatory for the student visa application and the visa cannot be issued until proof of a blocked account with sufficient funds is provided.

Migratunity Consulting will guide you through the process of opening your blocked account (Sperrkonto) for your German student visa. We provide step-by-step support to ensure your account is set up correctly and meets all the requirements for your visa application.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The blocked account (Sperrkonto) is opened in your name only. This means that no one else has access to the funds you deposit, ensuring your money is fully secure.

In case of visa rejection or if you withdraw from the visa process, the funds in your blocked account will be refunded after the German Embassy issues a confirmation note to the bank. This ensures that your money is safely returned to you following official verification.
