Students - Your Journey Starts Here!
At Migratunity Consulting, we guide students step-by-step on their journey to study in Germany. Below are the key requirements you need to fulfil before starting your studies.
Academic qualification
A school-leaving certificate alone may not qualify you for direct admission for a bachelor's degree to a German university. Depending on your educational background, you may need:
For a Bachelor's degree:
- At least one year of recognized university study in your home country or
- Completion of a Studienkolleg (foundation year) in Germany
- Diploma holders may qualify for admission to a Bachelor’s degree: Please consult us.
For a Master's Degree:
- A completed Bachelor’s degree qualifies you for admission to a Master’s degree program or another Bachelor's program.
- Competitive grades are often required depending on the university and field of study.
For a PhD (Doctoral degree):
- A completed Master’s degree is generally required.
- In exceptional cases, highly qualified candidates with a strong Bachelor’s degree may be considered, depending on the university, field of study, and availability of supervision.
- Admission is subject to acceptance by a supervising professor and compliance with university-specific regulations.
Language Requirements Requirements:
- German-taught programs: German B1–C1 (Goethe, Telc, ÖSD).
- English-taught programs: IELTS, TOEFL, or proof of English as the medium of instruction from your university.
Proof of Finances for the Visa:
- Blocked Account (Sperrkonto): €11,904 (~KSH 1.8 M) per year (2025). Read more here
- Sponsor in Germany: Verpflichtungserklärung (formal obligation). Read more here
- Other Scholarships. Read more here
Tuition fees
- Public universities: Most Bachelor’s and Master’s programs have no tuition fees. Students usually pay a semester contribution of approx. €150–€500 per semester, which often includes public transport.
- Exception – The states of Baden-Württemberg and some universities in Bavaria: Non-EU students pay €1,500 per semester at public universities.
- Private universities: Tuition fees range from €5,000 to €20,000+ per year, depending on the program and institution.
- PhD programs: Typically tuition-free, especially at public universities. Candidates may be employed as research staff or funded through scholarships.
Working While Studying
International students are allowed to work:
- 120 full days or 240 half days per year, or
- Up to 20 hours per week during the semester
- Full-time work is permitted during semester breaks
⚠️ Part-time work can support living costs but does not replace the visa financial requirement.
